Posing the question of whether retirement isn’t actually the beginning of living a truly fulfilled life built over the course of a person’s entire existence, Mandy and the other voices in this read build the story of their retirement from a bottom to top approach that is, they involve the reader in their life’s story showing how they got to achieve their retirement status. Mandy brings together life stories of reputable retirees from different walks of life to educate the reader on the ways to prepare for retirement from an early age and how to enjoy it while making the most of their new-found free time to be proactive and productive to themselves and the society they live in. Over the course of the book, he explores fifteen steps for preparation of retirement, delving into the utilization of time, money, passions, healthy

living as a means to an end, “an enjoyable retirement”. The book has many wonderful insights on life, topics ranging from work, managing finances, faith, to matters of the heart, family, human compassion and appreciation of, and connection to nature recur in this read. Although Fagil Mandy is the main character and narrator in this book and speaks of his life’s lessons and process to retirement, what truly makes this read rich is all the evidence the author draws from multiple sources to enforce the necessity of preparation for Retirement.

Experiences from among others Dr. Maggie Kigozi, a renown Ugandan business consultant who formerly served as the Executive Director of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), from 1999 until 2011. the recently deceased Major General Kisirye Gwanga, a Ugandan military officer who served from 1972 to 2018. These accounts are real enough for readers to relate with and provide a memorable and absorbing read. The dialogue in the book is genuine and spot-on coupled with an engaging narration which is guaranteed to keep the reader hooked.

The book goes into amazing levels of detail. It is a short read but gives an immense range and amount of information that you would not find in any other book on the subject in the country. The chapters are organized in a way that flows, making it easy to understand. So, if you have ever wondered how to transition from 40 years of eight-to-five jobs to a happy retirement, preparing for and enjoying retirement should be a treasure box for you and those intending to retire in a few years, and remains integral for those that have just received their first appointment letter, the writing is tame enough that younger school going readers could also read it.
